Mississauga Trip Overview
In 2014, Macleans magazine named the county among the Ten Places You Must See. The county became the only tourist destination in Canada, which was included in the list of Best Places to Travel in 2015 by Travel and Leisure Magazine.
In Prince Edward county, festivals are held year-round. This year, the famous Lavender Festival is cancelled, but we will visit magnificent lavender fields and you will marvel at many cultivars of lavender with a miriad of colours, scents and tastes.
During our one-day trip, we will taste wine at local wineries and try different varieties of cheese produced here. We will visit several art galleries and a sculpture garden. We will see the famous Lake on the Mountain (the Mohawk people call it Onokenoga, or Lake of the Gods) and the equally famous dunes, drive along the historic loyalist road and visit the picturesque towns of Bloomfield, Wellington and Picton.

Rolling farmland, vineyards and apple orchards form a pleasant backdrop for one mysterious lake… the Lake on the Mountain. The Lake on the Mountain is a just over one square kilometer in size, rises to 62 meters above the Bay of Quinte (Lake Ontario) and approximately 37 meters deep. The Mohawk peoples called the lake Onokenoga, or Lake of the Gods, and believed that spirits dwelled within its deep waters. Each spring they offered gifts to the spirits to ensure a successful crop in the coming year. Early settlers believed the lake was bottomless and still others thought Lake on the Mountain led to a subterranean passage and distant water source.
