Make the most of your Banff adventure

What makes Icefields Parkway & Ice Bubbles of Abraham Lake Adventure a unique experience ?

On this tour, your Radventures guide will determine the best times to visit each of the following locations, in no particular order, based on weather conditions, big bus tour schedules & a few other factors that we as locals consider to ensure that you, as our guests, are getting the best and most authentic experience on the day.

Adventuring outside deep in the heart of Banff National Park is a phenomenal experience in any season!

That being said, this is a part of the world where weather can change in an instant and temperatures stay well below freezing for most of the winter. Please layer up and dress for being outside in freezing temperatures! Please also ensure you have warm, waterproof footwear on.

Just outside the eastern border of Banff National Park, the once-overlooked Abraham Lake has recently surged in popularity.

This is due to the unique spectacle of methane bubbles trapped within its frozen surface.

Nestled against the backdrop of the majestic Canadian Rockies, its awe-inspiring beauty has attracted many, elevating its fame.

Our expert local guides come with the proficiency to pinpoint the best locations on the lake for observing and capturing these mesmerizing bubbles, ensuring you steer clear of the bustling crowds. They also prioritize your safety amidst this rugged landscape.

Adding a cozy touch to the icy setting, we’ll set up a fire pit and offer hot drinks at Abraham Lake for guests to gather and warm up.

For a truly memorable adventure, contact Radventures to reserve ice skate rentals and gracefully glide over these frozen marvels!

Don your snowshoes or crampons (provided) and venture through snow-laden paths to the breathtaking Peyto Lake viewpoint.

Once there, our certified local guide will equip you and demonstrate the gear usage, guiding you through the enchanting forests of Bow Summit to a panoramic view of Peyto Lake, nestled amid towering mountains and glaciers in the vastness of Banff National Parks Rocky Mountains.

If you can walk, then you can snowshoe!

Opting for this experience is up to you, but it’s heartily suggested. Expect an easy to moderate walk: a 1.5 km/0.9 miles round trip, taking about 45 minutes.

Located at a height of 1,920 m (6,300 ft), Bow Lake ranks among Banff National Park’s most expansive lakes.

With the Bow Glacier in the Wapta Icefield as its source, the lake nestles beneath Bow Summit, offering a splendid viewpoint to capture the Canadian Rockies’ magnificence in photographs.

On Radventures’ full-day guided journeys, expect the unexpected! Our expert local guides love sprinkling in delightful surprises to enhance your experience.

We promise visits to Abraham Lake, Peyto Lake, and Bow Lake.

However, using their in-depth knowledge of the area, current weather, tourist bus schedules, and recent wildlife sightings, our guides might punctuate the journey with surprise stops.

These could include: Waterfowl Lakes, Herbert Lake, Cline River Falls, and even some secret spots we cherish too much to reveal!
